London, Dec 08. (PRINTWORDS NEWS) -The netbooks have a fan following in the students and executives on the move but they are not a favorite with the performance seekers. It is mainly due to the use of components in these devices. The Atom low voltage CPU and integrated graphics solution used in the majority of netbooks make them unfit for playing latest 3D games or media encoding. That is bad news for the Hulu fans or media professionals who use applications like Adobe Photoshop or DivX encoding. However, all these is going to change with Acer’s Ferrari One 200 netbook. Acer has some models in the Ferrari range but they are all multimedia oriented laptops. This is a netbook that makes casual 3D gaming and HD playback a cakewalk.
The Ferrari One 200 will ensure you get all the attention in a place when you pop it out of your bag. Its bright glossy red exterior with yellow horse logo at the middle is a scene stealer. Once you get over the oomph factor, you will realize that Acer has paid a lot of attention to its build quality and ergonomics. It is larger than most of the netbooks you can find. In fact it is bulkier than some ultra portable laptops such as the Macbook Air and Lenovo X301. After opening the lid you will notice a Ferrari logo sitting at the corner. The moment you switch the device on it glows red. Even the bottom of the model has a touch of motoring-its stands resemble tyre treads.
The 11.6 inch bright display is suitable for web browsing and literally all sorts of work. The model also has a webcam at the top of the lid. Acer has utilized the space inside the netbook wisely. Apart from the USB port, SD card slot and VGA slot you will find an unfamiliar looking port at the left side of the model. This is an XGP port-the USP of Ferrari One 200. This is for the gaming freaks who are not satisfied with the performance of inbuilt ATI Radeon 3200 GPU. While you can attach external graphics solution using this port, there are not many IGP solutions in the market nowadays.
If you are wondering what processor powers this pretty beast you will be glad to know that Acer has used a new powerful CPU that outperforms Intel Atom chips by a large margin. Its a dual core AMD chip named Athlon X2 L310. Don’t be fooled by its relatively slower clock speed of 1.2 Ghz as it is way ahead of the best performing Atom CPU. The keypad is similar to that of Acer’s Timeline series of laptops and the keys in the Ferrari One 200 give excellent tactile feedback. The CPU is complemented well by 2 GB memory and a 250 GB hard disk. Its hardware is more than capable of dealing with Windows 7 visual effects.
So you might be thinking, where is the caveat in the Ferrari One 200? Well, when you take home a Ferrari you know it is a performance champion. However, you definitely do not expect it to be the mileage leader. The same is the case with Acer Ferrari One 200. It makes other netbooks appear puny with its solid performance and seriously hot looks but comes a cropper in battery life performance. Even with the supplied 6 cell battery it does not last more than 5 hours under light usage. That means under strenuous use it will run out of juice sooner. The Samsung N510 which is a Nvidia Ion based model, offers better battery life.
