Perugia, Dec. 06, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) After being in the pipeline for almost a period of two years, the verdict for the sensational murder trial of British student Meredith Kercher has finally drawn its curtain over the court room drama. Though for Meredith Kercher’s parents it means an end to a chaotic period in their life, for Amanda Knox it means that her days of gnawing anxiety over her impending fate has been put an end to and now she can have peace restored to her, albeit in the cold comforts of the cell that she is set to dwell in for the upcoming 26 years of her life. The jury has found Knox and her partner in the crime and former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, guilty of all charges of murder.
It took the jury almost about 13 hours to seal the fate of the woman who has been delved in controversy over the death of her roommate ever since the heinous crime took place in the November of 2007. However, the entire Knox clan has come up brandishing scorn regarding the ruling of the murder trial and have claimed that they aim to fight it out with all that they have got, in order to secure the future of the American student. This trial has certainly been one of the most speculated murder trials in recent times, owing to the fact that not many were inclined to believe that such murderous intentions could ever lie dormant beneath an angelic face such as the one possessed by Amanda Knox.
On the very first day of her 26 year long impending prison time, Knox received the “cold” comforts of her fellow cell mate, as they stay up all night in order to keep a vigil on her. Knox’s cellmates also handed her a cup of warm milk, to help the 22 year old from Seattle soothe down the news of her harsh sentence. Over the years that she has spent in the Capanne prison, she befriended quite a number of the guards, who also made routine checks on her every fifteen minutes- after the sentence was awarded and she was returned to her cell on Friday.
Commenting on the present state in which Knox is in, her attorney Luciano Ghirga said, “She’s down, very down. I hugged her. She’s depressed, disappointed, all of those things.”
The court room drama that had unfolded on the last day of the trial [just before the sentence was read out] was every bit as tensed and sensational as has been the entire sordid affair. On hearing her sentence, Knox almost collapsed in sobs and leaned onto her Perugian attorney for moral support. Deanna Knox [Amanda's sister] was inconsolable as she shook with sobs. From the gathered crowd at the court room, words like “assassini” were commonly flung- aimed at the entire gathered Knox clan. To add to all the mayhem, the venue thronged with eager paparazzi, who formed a near death chain around Curt Knox and his daughters, as they headed towards their hotel.
Alongside Amanda, her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and her fellow accomplice in the murder of Meredith Kercher, received an equally harsh sentence- he was awarded a 25 years term. It has been commonly made evident that both Knox and Sollecito are going to appeal against the court ruling and fight the verdict.
