
July 2, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) British actor Andrew Garfield is to edge the character of Spider-Man in the upcoming edition of the superhero series, it has been announced. The 26 year old actor is best known for starring in the Terry Gilliam directed “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” would be seen playing the role of the web slinging superhero in latest installment of “Spider-Man,” the filming for which is scheduled to commence from the month of December.
The news that Andrew Garfield has been roped in to play Peter Parker was revealed to the media on Thursday at an event in Mexico that was organized by Sony Pictures. The unveiling of the leading man in the fourth version of the superhero franchise brings to end months of speculations that were sparked after Tobey Maguire stepped out of the upcoming edition of the movie series. Marc Webb, who is known for directing British-Indie romantic-comedy “(500) Days of Summer,” will assume the directing responsibilities while the screenplay would be taken care of by James Vanderbilt.
Speaking of Andrew Garfield, new director Marc Webb revealed that, “through his name might be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his talent.” The director further went on to describe Garfield as a ‘rare combination of wit, intelligence and humanity’ and emphasized that the audiences would surely love to see him edge their favorite character of Peter Parker.
The Spider-Man series is among the most successful franchises with the three previous installments successful in grossing a whopping USD 2.5 billion across the world. However, it remains to be seen whether the Andrew Garfield is able to successfully step into the shoes of Tobey Maguire who played the role of the superhero with much elan in all the previous three flicks.
