Kent, UK, Nov.25, (PRINTWORDS NEWS)Jane Andrews who escaped from an open prison in Kent has been brought in by the police and is once again in their custody. Having bolted from her open prison in East Sutton, the authorities went out to look for her thinking she may have hurt herself but found her well near to the facility in the early hours. Andrews had been given a sentence for 15 years for the brutal murder of her live-in partner Thomas Cressman, 39 when using a kitchen knife and a cricket bat, the 42-year-old bludgeoned and killed Thomas because he refused to marry her. The authorities said, “Police have located missing person- Jane Andrews who is safe and well and she has been taken into police custody. She was found in the Maidstone area in the early hours of this morning.” “Police would like to thank the media for their part in publicizing her disappearance and to the public for their assistance and information.”, said the spokesperson.
The murder, which took place on the 17th of September in 2000 in Fulham, London, Andrews- the resident of Lincolnshire was given 15 years in jail, out of which three years were deducted after an appeal and she was also eligible to come out on parole in 2012. However, after serving 8 and a half years, Andrews claimed to be suitable enough to be moved to an open prison. The 42-year-old addressed the three man parole board to convince them of her “remorse and her determination to move forward and put the past behind her”. Not only this but there was a 250-page-long report that claimed Andrews was a well-behaved inmate, and other supportive reports by the psychiatrists.
The victim’s brother, Rick Cressman was the only opposition to the plea saying “She is a very manipulative person and capable of saying and doing anything to get what she wants”, but the panel decided in favor of Andrews who was sent to open prisons near York and then in Kent. It looked like the 58-year-old hotelier, Rick had been right in opposing the transfer, when Andrews bolted from the East Sutton based, Send prison on the night of Sunday proving that the facility, spread out extensively is anything but secure.
Recently, on 18th November too she was taken to a hospital after taking a paracetamol overdose. This was seen as a suicide attempt, due to which the police suspected she may have fled the prison just to hurt herself somehow. In 2003 also she was found unconscious by the prison staff. Jane Andrews also served as the former royal aide to the Duchess of York for nine years till 1997, where she made the headlines when jewelery worth thousands of pounds went missing, though nothing was proved.
The victim’s family, the Cressmans who own a hotel near Solihull in West Midlands, are urging the concerned authorities to send her back to an enclosed prison and to reconsider her parole period. ‘She has never shown any remorse. It’s disgraceful. It’s complete and utter incompetence that she is on the streets,’ added Mr Rick Cressman. He also criticized the authorities saying it happened due to “complete and utter incompetence”.
