July 1, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Catcher Bengie Molina has been traded by the San Francisco Giants to the Texas Rangers. The move is expected to clear the space for the 2008 No.1 Draft pick Buster Posey. Bengie Molina’s transfer will also accompany the transfer of Chris Ray to the San Francisco Giants team and also a player who is yet to be named. The San Francisco giants will also be sending $2 million to the Texas Rangers to offset the salary difference between Bengie Molina and Chris Ray.
The deal however is yet to be finalized as it is waiting for the commissioner’s approval. The Manager Bruce Bochy reportedly informed Bengie Molina after the team landed in Denver on Wednesday night. The 35 year old veteran catcher was seen hugging his teammates and then heading to the same hotel. In a statement he said that nothing is official yet as it is waiting the approval of the commissioner. He also added that the Manager Bruce Bochy has said that if he does not hear anything by the time of the upcoming he should go top the field.
Bengie Molina has spent three and a half seasons with the San Francisco Giants. His leadership skills and talent has been recognized by the team which is evident from the fact that he received the Willie Mac Award twice. He was miscast in the clean up spot in 2008 and 2009 and yet he did not complain. At the start of his career, Bengie Molina was regarded as a ‘good glove, no hit’ catcher but later he developed as a free swinging power hitter. His slugging percentage however dropped from .442 to .332 recently which can be called one of the reasons of the San Francisco Giants letting go of him.
