London, Dec 23 (PRINTWORDS NEWS) -
Even as British confectioner Cadbury is busy fighting off a hostile acquisition bid by Kraft foods, it has maintained the tradition of sending specially made chocolates to the Buckingham palace for the queen. Every Christmas Cadbury sends some boxes of specially made chocolates for the Queen and other members of the Royal family of England. The chocolate meant for the Buckingham palace is made exclusively at the company’s Birmingham facility and its recipe has been kept a secret over the decades. Cadbury got a royal warrant from queen Victoria in 1854 for making this exquisite dark chocolate. The recipe has been customized to suit the taste of the Queen.
However, the recipe for this special chocolate has added cocoa solids and therefore it can be used for culinary purposes as well. The chocolate bars are covered in gold foil and the exterior consists of a red wrapper with Royal crest imprinted on it. It is named as Cadbury’s Superior Culinary Dark Chocolate though the staff at Cadbury call it ‘Royal Household chocolate’. The chocolates are used by Royal kitchens to make deserts and also eaten separately at times.
Tony Bilsborough, a spokesperson for the confectioner confirmed that this chocolate is not meant for selling to the mass. Meanwhile the UK government has made it clear that it will not intervene in the Cadbury-Kraft tussle that has been going on for some time. Earlier Lord Mandelson fumed at Kraft for its hostile offer to Cadbury shareholders and warned it not to use Cadbury as a pawn for making money fast. However, he maintained that any takeover offer made to the largest confectioner of the nation should not underestimate its rich legacy and business ethics. Cadbury snubbed the offer of Kraft terming it as derisory.
