The Sprint MiFi 4082 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot is one such device. It is a solid device but its 4G speeds are not exactly stellar. The MiFi 4082 is available for $80 and Sprint offers a two-year contract as well. The router has useful features for the users. It has GPS and ahs wireless N standard as well. It also functions well as a network storage device.

The device is among the smallest mobile routers in the segment. The device has a LCD that indicates network status and battery condition. For 3G and 4G it shows signals in different colors and red light glows when there is any problem in the network. It can be charged using a computer thanks to its microUSB port. The microSD slot accommodates external memory cards. It supports up to 5 devices at once.

It starts up within 20 seconds and connects to the internet as well. There is a web interface for enabling the network access feature and changing the settings of the device. The inclusion of GPS is a nifty feature more so for the frequent travellers. As for the users who are paranoid about security features, the MiFi 4082 offers both WPA and WEP encryption. When the device is connected to a PC, it supports tethering.

The users can relax as the device is very user friendly. The first time you connect it to a PC the setup runs automatically. From next time the computer gets connected to cellular internet network. The MiFi 4082 can perform as both a wireless router and a modem at the same time, which is handy. It is speedy but cannot beat the 4G routers of Verizon.

It offers a 12.1 MP sensor with 4x optical zoom. It bears many resemblances with the 220 HS but has a bigger rear LCD display. The camera is loaded with features and performs really well under most situations. It records FullHD video and you also get a dedicated record button with this model.

The standard AV and USB interface is there but Canon has packed in an HDMI out port so that you can enjoy the HD video recorded by the device on your large screen HDTV. The HS in the name of the model stands for High Sensitivity and the sensor sports the backside-illumination. It also offers ISO 3200. The 110 HS offers identical effects seen in its more expensive cousins and they are fun to play around with. The camera supports SD, SDHC or SDHC cards for storage. Canon does not offer any internal memory with it.

The build quality of the 115HS is solid and you won’t feel it is a cheap or flimsy model. The camera comes with a smart auto mode now a compulsory feature for all digital compact cameras. You do get some options for manual adjustments in the Program auto mode. There are useful features like smart shutter mode, high speed burst mode and underwater mode. You get some waterproof covers for the last mode. Canon also offers a few Panorama modes. There are some interesting high speed movie modes in this camera.

The camera is quite speedy and you will not feel any performance lag with it. The autofocus works well and it is quite fast. The camera shoots sharp images under most situations with vivid color. Even in low light it does not let you down as long as you do not push up the ISO beyond 800.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-S3 is an entry level point and shoot digital compact camera that is affordable and offers a number of useful features. It has a cute looking body with rounded edges and it looks like Panasonic has aimed this at the first time buyers and amateur photographers. Its plastic body is very lightweight and you can easily slip it into your pockets. The camera offers a 14 MP sensor with a Lumix DC Vario lens which captures decent quality images under most situations. It also offers 4x optical zoom which is adequate for casual users. Even though it is a cheap model you can capture 720p HD videos with it. Like most Lumix models it does come with a convenient ‘intelligent auto’ mode. This mode blends features like face detection and image stabilisation.

The Lumix S3 is really easy to operate and you get a dedicated button for movie too. It operates rather fast and performs really well in daylight and well lit areas. The image sharpness and depth of colour from a cheap point and shoot camera deserves appreciation. The image blur is taken care of by its optical image stabilisation which works quite well. The camera suffers in low light shots and without the flash the amount of noise shots up noticeably. The video performance of this model is quite average. You cannot use optical zoom when you capture video which is a bad thing. This is ideal for you if you can do without the touch screen or 3D shooting modes and do not need a super zoom model at your disposal.

The other model released by Panasonic is the Lumix DMC-FS37. It is not exactly the slimmest or coolest looking model but its performance and feature sets are quite impressive. This model is available only in black and silver and its design is inspired by the TZ series of Panasonic. The body is made of brushed metal and it feels reassuringly sturdy in hands. The back of the camera is covered almost totally by the touch screen LCD.

The Touch screen is intuitive and easy to operate but seriously do not expect iPhone like finesse. The camera is quite fast for its class. In daylight the performance is top notch with fine sharpness and rich colours. It excels in macro performance. The Leica Lens shows on mettle in close up shots and the amount of details captures deserves appreciation. In low light keep the ISO level to 400 to get noise free images. The 8x optical zoom works fine but at the end of the level some blurriness creeps in despite the ‘Mega’ optical image stabiliser working. The HD 720p video footage is of decent quality though you cannot compare that with the quality you get from a camcorder.

It is true that computers have become almost an indispensable part of our lives but we use them for different reasons. For a lot of people computers are the work companions and machines that are used for calculations and office productivity. However, for a lot of others computers double up as entertainment devices and gaming devices too. Yes not everyone is into console gaming and they prefer killing the virtual enemies in front of a PC. The gaming computers are mainly desktops though you can buy a number of gaming laptops these days. Most people prefer buying desktops for gaming because they can be easily upgraded and cost less than a typical high end gaming laptop.

If you want to buy a gaming desktop PC there are certain things you will have to consider. It is easy to get floored by the tech jargons used by the manufacturers and end up buying a PC that has mundane spec to run the games you love. You need to know what your requirements are. There are various types of gamers and not everyone needs a higher end and expensive computer for gaming. Yu also need to ensure that the computer you buy is quite upgradable and reasonably future proof. However, the latter aspect is subjective given the fact that computer hardware technology changes very fast these days. Some of the gaming PC manufacturers offer plenty of customization options and you can specify exactly what components you want in your PC.

The first component you need to consider before buying a gaming PC is the CPU. There was a time the CPU handled the games but now that task is done by GPU. Still, the CPU plays a vital role in aiding the GPU with the support it needs to run a game smoothly. The days of single core CPUs are over and present generation games are designed to take advantage of dual or more cores of the CPUs. If you are on a budget you can go for the AMD’s Phenom quad core CPUs. They may lag behind the Intel counterparts by a small extent but they are suited for gaming. If budget is not an issue definitely opt for the Intel Core i7 CPUs. The Sandy Bridge CPUs are out and pick one of them. These CPUs come fitted with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology which means that they can hike the stock speed when you run demanding apps and games.
Nowadays even entry level PCs come with at least 2GB of RAM installed and for a gaming PC you will need 4 GB of RAM. Make sure there are room for future upgrades aka free RAM slots when you buy the PC. If you buy a PC that comes with 64 bit edition of Windows you can merrily buy more RAM.

The present generation games require a lot of storage space. It would be wise to go for a 640 GB or 750 GB hard disk. Remember that you will have to store your music and movie collection on the hard disk as well and they do need a lot of space. A 7200 RPM SATA hard disk is required for a gaming PC and if you can afford a more expensive and faster 10000 RPM one that would be really nice. It is also fine if you can arrange a couple of fast HDDs in raid setup.

The graphics card is the most important component of a gaming PC. You will have to select from the GPUs offered by AMD and Nvidia. Go for a GPU with 1GB of RAM and support for Direct X 11 games. It is nice if the GPU has a robust cooling mechanism as these cards tend to get hot. Some GPUs come with over clocking utilities. The tower or the cabinet of your gaming PC need to be kept cool and dust free. Install at least a pair of fans to vent out the hot air. Some motherboards also offer cabinet temperature monitoring apps and you get warning when the temperature goes beyond the safe limit. It is a useful feature.

You will also need to invest in a good mouse and keyboard set for a gaming PC. It is ideal to buy a pair of wireless combo. If you prefer playing in night buy a backlit keyboard. Some of the gaming mouse and keyboards have dedicated and programmable keys as well. Laser mouse offers you excellent precision levels for FPS games. If you do not want to disturb others when you play games buy a good pair of headphones with noise isolation technology. For a gaming PC a set of speakers with subwoofer is a must. Only then you can expect to get a nice and immersive gaming experience. Preferably go for a 5.1 speaker set and make sure it has THX certification. Logitech and Creative has some very good models.
The monitor you buy for a gaming PC should preferably be a LCD widescreen monitor. LED LCD models have better black level performance and consume less power too. A 21 to 23 inch monitor would suffice. It would be nice if the monitor has HDMI and DVI port. That way you can hook it up with your existing gaming consoles. Some monitors also come up with USB ports thereby allowing you to connect a number of USB devices. You may prefer glossy or matte coating on your display according to your choice.

If you are into multiplayer gaming you also need to have a fast internet connection with unlimited data plans. The games also get updates and patches from time to time and they are often in GBs in size. Hardcore gamers also register themselves into online gaming forums where they share their tips and even game cheating codes with fellow gamers. Some gamers also require you to register online at the manufacturer’s site for earning the eligibility for updates and other goodies.

It is a LED backlit ultra slim LCD TV with a huge 60 inch screen. It falls in the company’s Quattron range and comes with web apps and a 240Hz refresh rate. The TV also features a number of energy saving technologies.

The set is slim and stylish all right but it does not scream style. The huge 60 inch screen is surrounded by a thin glossy bezel. The base allows you to tilt the TV to an extent to get the right viewing angle. The base does not feel sturdy but you are most likely to mount the TV on your wall. There are plenty of connectivity options starting from 4 HDMI to 2 USB ports. There is an Ethernet port in the TV as well. The long slim remote controller is easy to use even for the novices.
The on screen menu is not as cool as you would find in some rival TV models. The TV offers access to a number of Web apps but they are quite basic compared to other HDTV sets. You do get access to popular apps like Netflix, Facebook and Twitter.

The Sharp LC-60LE835U produces natural looking sharp images and vivid colors. The Black level reproduction is also excellent for a LED LCD screen. You can adjust the refresh rate of the screen from 240Hz to 120 Hz or the standard 60Hz. Signal up conversion is also handled admirably by this TV. The 3D performance of this TV is also great and the glasses provided are quite heavy.

The L range stands for life and the new Coolpix L 120 is the successor to last year’s L110. It looks much like a DSLR but in fact it is a super zoom compact digital camera. Nikon has equipped this model with a massive 21 x optical zoom. It has a 14MP sensor and offers a number of shooting modes that will please the intermediate level users who want some amount of control in a digital camera. It also shoots HD720p video at 30 FPS.

As is the case with most compact digital cameras there is an easy auto mode along with 17 scene modes for the users who are not technology savvy. There is the usual Nikon Best Shot Selector and a unique Multi shot 16 option. There is a Panorama shot option as well which can produce some really interesting results. However, it is not as good or sophisticated as the sweep Panorama feature in Sony Cyber Shot cameras. Some color options are included with the set but there is no creative filer set that you get with some rival products.

Design wise it reminds one of its predecessor aka L110. Like the earlier model it is also powered by 4 AA batteries. They are easily available but takes time to be recharged. When inserting or taking out the SDXC or SDHC card you need to be careful lest the batteries do not drop out of case. The camera features some nice energy saving features that springs into action when the camera is left idle. Nikon says it delivers up to 330 shots or 3 hours of HD footage using the battery. The build quality of the camera is top notch and it does not look or feel flimsy in any way.
By the side of the camera there is a pop up flash and to activate it you need to press a button. There is a side control zoom button which operates smoothly but slowly. The button placement is user friendly and there is a separate movie capture button as well. In terms of connectivity you get USB, AV out and HDMI. The last one is pretty good as it allows you to hook the camera to a LCD HDTV. The wide angle TFT LCD offers a 921 dot resolution and has an anti reflective coating as well.

As far as performance is concerned the L 120 delivers well on most aspects. Till ISO 400 the noise level is very less. Nikon’s noise reduction technology is efficient but at times it takes a toll on image details. The sensor-shift vibration reduction technology cope with accidental shakes rather well. In most of the cases the AF system works fine and it offers subject tracking as well. However, the AF system sometimes struggles in low light scenes. Overall, it stacks up well against other compact superzoom models delivering consistently good results.

What it means for you is that no longer you have to sacrifice performance for portability. Dell and HP have come out with some such ultraportable models of late and Toshiba too has jumped on the bandwagon with its Portege R830 model. It looks cool with its matte finish panel and offers extended battery life that can cover the time you need in an intercontinental flight easily. It is powered by an Intel Sandy Bridge CPU so performance is not going to be an issue.

The 13.3 inch screen of the laptop sports a 1366×768 resolution which is good enough for almost every work. You can choose to have a better CPU from Intel Core i5 and i7 series as well provided you are willing to dole out more. You can opt for a Hard drive or expensive 256 GB SDD. There is no discrete GPU though you are stuck with integrated Intel GMA 3000 HD. You can also choose between a 6 cell or beefier 9 cell battery.

The hard disk remains safe in case of accidental drop as Toshiba implements a 3D accelerometer. Depending on your usage pattern and need you can choose the CPU. For multimedia usage and HD content the Core i7 CPU is recommended. Its price is yet to be known but expect it to be much cheaper than the svelte Macbook Air or Samsung 9 series laptops.

They may be a tad slower than the latest Intel Core series CPUs but they provide great value for money. In real world scenario the performance difference is not much. You can take the Dell Inspiron 5030 as a case. It is powered by AMD Athlon X2 P360 dual core CPU. The laptop also features 4 GB of RAM which offers decent multitasking and media performance. However, you may need to uninstall some bloatware that Dell provides with it.

The 5400 RPM 500 GB hard disk is decent for the majority of users. Dell also packs in a dual layer DVD drive with the laptop. The 15.6 inch screen of the laptop has a resolution of 1366×768. The display quality is good but viewing angles are not too generous. The graphics is taken care of by the AMD Radoen HD 4350 GPU. It is better than Intel onboard graphics. However, do not expect it to excel at latest games.

The laptop is shipped with a 6 cell 48 WHr capacity. In regular usage it can last for three hours on an average. The laptop is quite heavy and so you may not want to carry it along with you. Connectivity wise it is quite nice as you get HDMI, webcam and Gigabit Ethernet. Dell packs in Windows 7 Home Premium edition with the model.

However, all is not over with netbooks as a lot of people think. Tablets may have stolen its thunder but the smaller cousin of laptop still has some way to go as it seems from the latest developments. Asus recently unveiled two net books which are powered by AMD Fusion platform. A few Fusion based ultra portables have already hot the market and the reviews have been generally encouraging. The two models belong to Asus’s popular Eee PC range.

The 1015B is a 10 inch net book powered by AMD’s single core C30 CPU which runs at a speed of 1.2GHz. It also has Radeon HD 6250 graphics. The sibling model 1215B features a bigger screen and resolution. Its 12 inch screen sports a nice 1366×768 resolution. It is powered by AMD E350 dual core CPU which runs at a stock speed of 1.6GHz. It also offers slightly more powerful Radeon HD 6310 graphics.

The smaller model has 2GB and the bigger one has 4 GB RAM. Both the models sport a USB 3.0 port. The icing on the cake is the HDMI out port. This is as good one can get from a net book. If you opt for the 6 cell battery it will last for 8.5 hours on a single charge. The pricing of the models is not yet known. The models will offer far better performance than Atom platform based contenders.

With smart phones becoming more affordable with time the thinking seems to be right. However, there are still some people who need phones for making calls and prefer ease of use and battery life over fancy features. If you are among these people, you can definitely consider the Sony Ericsson Cedar. It has a classic candy bar design and its look inspires elegance rather than style. The body of the phone has a matte finish.

As a phone Cedar gets the basics right. You can also use it as a media player albeit with restrictions. There is a headphone jack and a microUSB. It has a microSD slot that can support cards up to 16GB. The Cedar ships with a meager 2 MP camera and it lacks a Flash. The 2.2 inch screen of Cedar has a 320×240 resolution, the same you get on many cheap smart phones. However, colors pop out and images look sharp owing to the small size of the screen.

The keys on Cedar are really swift and messaging is a nice experience for the users. Now you may point out speed wise the standard layout cannot match QWERTY, and that is true. It has a decent web browser as well. The downer is that it does not offer support for Flash Video. It also packs in a FM radio. There is limited social networking support and there is no integration like Timescape. The battery life of the Cedar is impressive and it lasts for quite a few days. Sony Ericsson also touts it to be a green phone. It makes use of recycled plastics. It lets you do basically everything you want from a phone and the throws in some media and web enhancements as well- all within a budget price.
