eurostar Eurostar Services Stalled, Channel Tunnel Witnesses Evacuation OperationsLONDON, Dec.19, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) It seems that the most anticipated time of the year brought along with it unprecedented woes for most Britons, as the rough weather leading to the festive occasion of Christmas caused quite a few set back in the daily lives of the people. It what can be termed as a catastrophe, the Eurostar train service was stalled for quite sometime on Saturday, giving rise to a general slag in the means of transportation for daily commuters.

Owing to the heavy bout of snowfall over the region, the train services between Britain and France had to be put on hold for over a long period of time on Saturday. As many as 2,000 passengers remained stranded for quite a few hours due to the breaking down of as many as four trains in the Channel Tunnel.

What could be made out of the tentatively appearing initial reports on behalf of the railway authorities is that the chief reason to blame for all the pandemonium caused is the severe wintry weather conditions. According to reports, the prevalence of such drastic weather conditions on the either side of the English channel has led to the stalling of the couple of thousands of commuters while they were on board the Eurostar trains.

It has been stated that many of the passenger cars were left without turning on the heating system in the bone chilling weather conditions. No doubt that it caused a lot of inconvenience to those who were at the receiving end of the sufferings, namely the passengers. This led to the Eurostar officials cancelling all of their scheduled services until the noon of Saturday. It was also followed with the warning of the services of the Eurostar remaining uncertain as well as “severely disrupted” throughout the entire of the holiday weekend, due to the extreme weather conditions that has presently taken the region in its grasp.

The rescue operations of the stranded passengers took a considerable bit of time and some of the agonized passengers were evacuated with the help of service tunnels. For many, the traumatic experiences had to borne for as long as about 15 hours at a stretch.

According to the operator of the Eurotunnel, John Keefe, this is one of such situations that could be easily considered to be “absolutely extraordinary and unprecedented”. He said, “There’s never actually been an evacuation of an Eurostar train in the 15 years that the tunnel has been opened and last night we evacuated two whole trains to get people off.”
