England Braves Heavy Rains And Winds

strorm England Braves Heavy Rains And WindsYesterday, Nov. 14, turned out to be an unusually wet day for England as an intense bout of rain spell announced the end of the autumn and mild weather conditions. According to reports, it is the southern part of the nation that took the heaviest beating. Places like Wales and parts of eastern as well as southern England were almost led to flooding, following the downpour. It is being labelled as one of worst storms to have struck the nation in this year. Till now, Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to Kent have been named as the places that have taken the worst hit.

Winds of a speed of nearly up to 70 mph have been said to have raged across certain parts in London also. It has been stated that the velocity of the winds were sufficiently strong to have brought about a heavy count of property damage in many places. It has also been noted that the gales of furious winds uprooted trees and tore down branches as well as power cable lines in many parts of the region that had been struck.

Many other places, like the coastal regions, have been observed to have recorded winds of almost 100 mph. Following this, the coastal regions saw the rise of an extreme flood situation. All along the shoreline, there was a marked introduction of unusually high and voluminous waves crashing on the land. According to the Environment Agency as well as the Met Office, the people residing in the coastal areas around Hampshire, West Sussex, Dorset and South Wales faced the biggest threat for floods by the rise in the height of the sea level as well as the high tides. According to a West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, “There has been a hell of a lot of water, amounting to about two feet in total.”

According to a forecaster with the MeteoGroup UK, Stephen Davenport, the nature of the storm is reportedly quite severe in nature and can led to causing a lot of havoc all across the southern and eastern part of England. He also stated that, “It’s quite rare for the winds to be that strong inland: it certainly doesn’t happen very often. The storm developed off the coast and was fed by the still warm autumn sea temperatures.” According to reports, the Environment Agency has supposedly issued as many as seven serious flood warnings in quite a few places in Wales and southern England. In 66 other parts, a less serious flood watch situation is being worked on.

Highway agencies have issued a note of warning to travellers to check for the weather conditions as well as travel informations before hitting the road. Some of the sailings across the Channel have been halted following the severe weather conditions, as has been stated by the Port of Denver. Brittany Ferries had supposedly cancelled the Plymouth-Roscoff and Poole-Cherbourg sailings. Though it has been reported that the rains and gusty winds would come to a gradual ease by the end of the day itself, the week has in store some bad news in the form of further heavy rainfalls in parts of the country.
