HP has a number of well performing and great looking laptops in the market but its latest offering the Pavilion dm3-1105ea cannot be called a performance champion though in terms of looks it does well. The brushed aluminum finish of the laptop may make you feel as if it is a business laptop, though it does not fall under that category either. The build quality of the laptop is well and the first thing that will command your attention after you open the lids is the big sized track pad. The 13.3 inch LED display is nice and it scores well in terms of image display and video playback.
While the look of the laptop seems decent, the performance is underwhelming. It is quite surprising that HP chose to use an underpowered Intel Celeron SU2300 CPU in this model that runs art 1.2 GHz speed- this is not even average! The bundled 4 GB of RAM helps to make up for the weak CPU but in media intensive tasks the shortcoming of the CPU becomes evident. Of course if you are a user who needs a laptop to surf the web and work with MS office it would suit you just fine. Surprisingly enough, it plays back HD video quite well without frame drops and stuttering. An HDMI out port is also there.
The Pavilion dm3-1105ea does not have an optical drive though an USB DVD writer is given with it. It is pretty lightweight at 1.9 k and the hinges and build is good. The storage is taken care of by a 500 GB hard drive. This would have been a killer laptop had it not been for its wimping CPU.
