London, Dec 22 (PRINTWORDS NEWS) – Cross Country high speed rail transit company Eurostar is facing an unprecedented crisis after heavy snowfall has resulted in stalling its service. To add to the chaos, some Trans Atlantic carriers are also reeling under inclement weather resulting in cancellation of several flights. British Airways has been compelled to cancel many of its flights taking off from Heathrow airport. Paris Charles de Gaulle is going through the same problem and its series of flight cancellations have put several thousand Eurostar passengers in distress. Eurostar is suffering from mechanical fault that has stalled its trains but it has said that it will carry at least 26000 passengers to their destinations shortly.

However, Eurostar needs to fathom out how it will accommodate the backlog of 125000 passengers prior to Christmas. It has stated in its site that the elderly and vulnerable passengers will get the priority. The company is urging the passengers to opt for refund if the journey is not essential. The Eurotunnel service connecting UK and France came to a standstill following glitches in rail shuttle service and incessant snowfall.

Richard Brown, the CEO of Eurostar has admitted the gravity of the situation. The anglo French rail service hit rock bottom on Friday when five of sit trains came to a halt and kept over 2000 passengers trapped inside the channel for more than 12 hours. French President Nicolas Sarcozy has fumed at the operator and said that he wants immediate restoration of the train service. His view has been echoed by Britain’s transport minister,Sadiq Khan.

Passengers lost their cool at Paris’s  Gare du Nord station yesterday when Eurostar failed to confirm when the stalled service will resume. The passengers has been provided with information to buy transfer tickets. Some passengers have become irritated due to lack of proper information from Eurostar. The incident has dealt a blow to the image of Eurostar and the company is trying hard to restore normalcy in its services.
