Motorola Planning To Launch The Successor To The Droid?

June 12 (PRINTWORDS NEWS)Is this the Motorola Milestone 2 Google Nexus Two Motorola Planning To Launch The Successor To The Droid? Those who keep an eye on the developments in the mobile handset market, remember the brilliant Verizon ad attacking Apple iPhone with the catch line Droid does. The Droid which emerged as the first major smartphone running on Android literally rescued Motorola from the verge of extinction. Even though it did not kill the iPhone it did help the company bounce back from near oblivion and toll date it is selling very well. When the Droid w released as a GSM phone in Europe and Asian markets the response was positive again. However, it is time Motorola updates the phone since a lot of smart phones with similar specs are now out on the market. Apple is also going to start selling the next generation iPhone soon.

From what some tech sites suggest the successor to the original Droid will soon be released. The video that has been leaked on some tech sites gives a glimpse into the upcoming device. However, the final Droid 2 may look different from the one that is being shown in the web. The phone at a glance may look similar to the Droid but the keyboard has been given a revamp. The first Droid model drew flak for its slide keyboard. The buttons in the so called Droid 2 are slightly raised.

The imaging and display have been left untouched. However, the CPU under the hood has got a boost. The first Droid was powered by a 550 MHz CPU while the successor has got a beefy 750MHz processor. The new handset is good for those media buffs who always look for more storage space. If the available information is to be believed, the phone has a whopping 8GB inbuilt memory and also comes with 8GB external memory card. It is difficult to say whether the upcoming Droid 2 will match up well against the current market favorites like HTC EVO 4G and Nexus One.

As expected the new Droid comes with Android 2.1 and also with MotoBlur interface. So that is good news for the Twitter and Orkut addicts. It is hard to predict how the Droid 2 will fare since the number of new smart phones with beefed up specifications is quite high. The HTC Evo for example is the hot favorite with the smart phone buyers. The craze around the iPhone 4 is also gathering momentum.

Motorola has recovered to an extent after the Droid and some other Android models though it has to go a long way to reclaim its earlier position. Its latest offerings have also gone down well with the users. Depending on the pricing and carrier it chooses for launching the Droid 2 will play a role behind its success. The inclusion of Android 2.1 is a step in the right direction and the users will like the fact that they will get access to ever increasing Android apps.
