nuclear Britain Takes Initiatives To Upgrade Its Nuclear Power
Britain would be undertaking initiatives to expand its nuclear power in the near future which would also play a significant role in counteracting global warming. Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband has emphasized that empowering the country in the nuclear power sector is of imperative need in the present situation. He also announced a string of national policies that would be implemented in order cater to the nuclear needs of the country. A number of sites which would be suitable for nuclear development are also being outlined by the government and a new group of nuclear power plants would be operational within the next 10 years.

While addressing the anxieties that are usually associated with nuclear power, Miliband stressed that nuclear power was safe and government would be successful in tackling the fears of the people regarding the issue. The proposed sites for nuclear generation would be adjoining the present sites but at the same time the concerns of the people residing near the proposed sites would also be taken into consideration.

The Energy Secretary also emphasized that Britain needs to build and improve its energy infrastructure in which nuclear power would be significant, along with coal renewables and gas which also need to be improved considerably. Moreover, nuclear energy would provide a low carbon alternative which would go a long way in decreasing the total amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere and as a result would tackle global warming.

However, shadow energy secretary Greg Clark has raised doubts about the governments initiative and has emphasized that the new venture lacks any democratic component. He also added that before taking any major step the government should consult the Parliament and at the same time take the people’s mandate in the issue.
