nutt1 Nutts Sacking Brings On Resignations: His Prophecy Comes TrueProfessor David Nutt’s prediction came alarmingly true as experts from the drug advisory board stepped down from their positions in protest against the sacking of the Chairman of the Advisory Council of The Misuse of Drugs. The Home Secretary faced the resignations of two of the experts from the board. More resignations seem on the way. A member of the Council told the press that the Council is planning to take a collective action against Mr. Johnson. The threat, when translated, will probably mean that the entire Council will be giving in their resignations.

The Chairman of the Council For Misuse of Drugs was sacked via e-mail by Johnson. The allegation against him was anti campaigning against the government’s policies. Mr. Brown, the prime minister had said that cannabis was a grade b drug and had upgraded it to that position. Nutt had refused to go along with it and had gone public saying that the government’s decision as based on a mere whim and had hidden political purposes. He insisted that the government’s decision defied all scientific evidence as cannabis was even less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. He also hinted that the decision taken by Mr. Johnson had been influenced by Brown.

Johnson mentioned in his e-mail that Nutt was being sacked because he had crossed certain political limits. He said that there could not be employed by the British government someone who propagated against the government policies. In the press interviews too, he mentioned that Nutt was not being sacked for any political reason or because he was considered incompetent. The decision was based on the fact that he had behaved in a way that was not expected of him.

Nutt had warned Johnson that there would be serious repercussions of firing him. He had said specifically that the government should expect resignations from the Council. The predictions came true with the Home Secretary being handed the resignations of two of the Council’s members. The House too was bitterly divided over the question of the firing. The Science Minister himself aid that the was shocked and disgusted at the Home Secretary’s decision. The Science and Innovation Minister, Lord Drayton, asked if it would be possible for the Home Secretary would to revoke the decision. He asked if the prime minister could use his influence to repeal the sacking.

Lord Drayton wrote in the e-mail to the prime minister’s secretary that he had no clue about the Home Secretary’s decision. He said that he did not know about this and was not informed by Alan Johnson. He said that the whole issue was too great to just overlook it, and that it would not be possible for him. The sacking of the Professor has caused major problems in Britain’s drug policy. the sacking of the professor was followed by the resignation of two of the key members of the Council. This new development has left Britain unable to update or upgrade any of it’s drug policies. Marion Walker, the pharmaceutics representative had resigned, meaning an empty post in the Council, something that is against the regulations. Mr. Johnson has expressed his wish to hold talks with the government and the Council immediately.
