Feb 5, London, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) An inquest on Thursday ruled that A German locum Dr. Daniel Ubani killed a patient by administering fatal drug dose. The unfortunate patient was David Gray, a 70 yr from Cambridgeshire. He was suffering from Renal colic and died on February 16th 2008 just four hours after being visited by Dr. Ubani at his home in Manea, Cambridgeshire. Police started investigation following the death of David Gray. It was revealed that Dr. Ubani, who was working out-of-hours, administered 100 mg of diamorphine to the patient which was ten times higher than the recommended maximum daily dose.
David Gray’s son, Rory Gray apparently told “Make no mistake about it, when Ubani took the job on in England, he knew full well he had no idea how to work as a proper doctor.” He did not say the doctor has no knowledge of drug usage. Instead he said, “he chose to risk my Dad’s life and pretend he knew what he was doing.”
Dr. Ubani had earlier confessed his mistake by sending an apology letter to David Gray’s family telling them that he had arrived from Germany just one day before the incident took place, and he was nervous and shaky. However, the carelessness of the doctor caused the death of an innocent patient.
Cambridgeshire North and East Coroner William Morris said Dr Ubani was “incompetent and not of an acceptable standard.” Despite the coroner’s verdict, Dr Ubani cannot face trial in Britain. He was charged in Witten in German court with death by negligence over Gray’s death and given a nine-month suspension and a fine of 4,370 pound. The prosecution, allowed under German law, means he cannot be charged in the UK. This information would further disappoint close associates of David Gray.
