The users can switch quickly to the intelligent auto mode which is ideal for the novice users. This mode, when activated automatically selects the ideal shooting mode and eliminates issues like blurring, brightness and focusing. All of the buttons begin glowing with a blue hue when pressed and this helps in shooting in dimly lit environments. It has component out, USB/AV out and DC in ports at the right side of its body.
While the DMC-FP8 does not offer controls over finer parameters like shutter speed and aperture, the normal mode has some controls that will satisfy demanding users. The camera takes sharp and vivid pictures as long as the ISO level is set up to 800. Those users who prefer using the in-camera scene selection modes will like the camera as it offers a total of 28 modes. The most exciting feature of the camera is unarguably HD video recording. You can use the optical zoom when recording video and it does not make any noise. This feature is hard to find in most of the compact digital cameras.
While the camera beats the competing models in startup and shutter lag timings, in dim lighting it is not as fast. The image quality of the DMC-FP8 is very pleasant and the sharpness and details are superb. Once the ISO level is set above ISO 800, the images become grainy and a lot of color shifting also takes place. However, this is the case with a lot of digital cameras. The quality of the HD video recorded using the camera is pretty good with no choppiness and artifacts. Its auto mode is quite reliable for shooting various types of pictures but it has a tendency to raise the ISO level automatically when the environment lacks adequate light.
Overall, the Lumix DMC-FP8 is a steady performer that will suffice for the majority of users. Its wide angle lens, lag free operation and svelte design will be appreciated by those people who want their gadgets to look and perform equally well.
