London, Nov. 29, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Certainly he couldn’t have asked for any better birthday gift than what he received during ManU’s 4-1 win against Portmouth at Fratton Park. Just a day shy of the day that marked his 36th birthday, the veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs scored his 100th Premier League goal. He certainly is not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon [to the chagrin of opponents and glee of fans]. The match was an all out win- win situation for the men in reds. They won by a wide margin, Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick of goals and Gigg’s incredible feat. ManU boss Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t have asked for more.
Gigg’s commendable feat earned him lavish praises from Sir Ferguson, during which the ManU boss stated that over the years, Giggs has acted as a constant figure of awesome strength and skill, which has thoroughly remained undaunted in the face of his impending years. And Giggs just went all the way out to prove his mettle all over again.
Sir Ferguson has also revealed that he has no intention of just letting go of the talented man anytime soon. For the next two upcoming years, Sir Ferguson has expressed his desire to have Giggs on board the ManU team. Which is undoubtedly another piece of jubilant news for all the teeming multitudes of the fans of the men in red to go crazy about. This is what Ferguson had to tell, post the win, “Happy Birthday to Ryan. He’s had it 36 times in his life, wait until he gets to 67. I think he’ll be retired by then. He’s an exceptional player. A rarity. He will play for two years yet.”
When his kick found the net during the match against Portsmouth, the Welshman became the 17th Premier League player to have reached the 100th goal mark, a commendable achievement by all means.
And what does the birthday boy have to say to his much lauded journey so far? Ever the humble man that he is known to be, Giggs- upon being questioned on his fitness regime stated that it is his stance to keep away from flash and a in- your- face lifestyle that helps him keep fit and fighting for his club. In a candid confession, the talented man stated that, “My life is boring, boring but it’s what I have to do to stay fit. I used to leave training and be able to go out shopping or meet up with friends in town- but not now. Now it takes me one or two days to recover from matches so I know I have to conserve energy. These days I go home, put up my feet and sit on the settee watching TV or DVDs.”
One things is certain for now though; with Sir Ferguson’s assurance and Ryan Giggs’ pledge at keeping the impending years at bay, it is not going to be anytime soon that opponents get to heave a sigh of relief by bidding adieu to this nemesis of theirs.
