Irish low cost airlines Ryanair has expressed its desire to withdraw its flights from a lot of Italian airports after a conflict with Italian civil aviation authority over new rules on ID documents. It is clearly not happy with the rules imposed by ENAC. according to the Irish airline the new directives will be detrimental to its security standards. It thinks that the customers will be affected badly by the new rules imposed by the ENAC.
If it sticks to its plans, a number of Italian airports like Bergamo and Cagliari will be deprived of its service. As a matter of fact the ENAC directives came into effect in November 2009. Ryanair alleged that the authorities slapped the rules on the airlines without having a talk with them. Ryanair also feels that the directives also put its employees at risk. Michael O’Leary, the CEO of the airlines has apologized to the domestic Italian fliers and said the airlines does not want to cause inconvenience to its fliers but it find the new directives totally unacceptable.
Ryanair is firm on its stand and has issued a statement in its site over the matter. It says that that the airlines gives utmost priority to the safety and well being of its passengers and under no circumstances it will lower it. Ryanair further said that the flights can be restored only if the airlines think the safety and security standard at the Italian airports is not compromised. According to the latest buzz, ENAC is contemplating legal action against the airlines over the issue. The decision of the airline will affect thousands of domestic fliers if it is really implemented.
