Samsung Genio Slide: Budget TouchScreen With Features Aplenty

Mar 14 (PRINTWORDS NEWS)-440x330 samsung genio slide side Samsung Genio Slide: Budget TouchScreen With Features AplentySamsung is bringing out a wide range of Touch screen phones and it is determined to woo the traditional users who have not been affected by the touch fever so far. After its success with the Omnia HD and Jet the Korean giant has released the Genio Slide in the UK, which is a decent Touchscreen phone meant for the users who want a lot of features in their phones within a reasonable price range. In the UK, it sells for£190 SIM-free. The Genio slide looks cute with its slightly rounded corner and glossy finish and you can expect a few heads to turn when you pop it out of your pocket in a gathering though it is not very sleek.

The glossy finish is prone to fingerprints though. The model has a solidly built slide out QWERTY keyboard. If you think the keyboard is for eye candy, you are wrong. It is among the best keyboards used in the budget smart phones. They offer a nice tactile feedback as you type out mails or text messages. It is ideal for the heavy web users as it is evident from the key layout. Unless you have very big fingers you will like the keyboard and stick to it rather than use the virtual keyboard. However, the virtual keyboard is also pretty responsive and gives vibration feedback.

The Touchscreen is good but it will disappoint the hardcore geeks. Its QVGA 240×320 resolution is not exactly astounding and you will find phones from LG and Nokia in this range that offer bigger resolutions. However, for general usage the screen is good enough. It is only when you scroll through big web pages you feel that the screen could have been a tad bigger. The model uses resistive Touch screen which is not as responsive as capacitive variety but it works well enough. The Genio slide makes use of Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface which is pretty user friendly and even novice users will find it intuitive.

The phone has three home screens and all of them are highly customizable. You get widget sidebar which is reminiscent of windows Vista, the only difference is that it is much faster. The phone includes lots of social networking apps like facebook and MySpace. You can launch the FM radio and music player from the widgets sidebar and also access them using the main menu. The provided headsets are quite good but if you want pristine sound quality you would like to insert your favorite headset since it has 3.5 mm jack. The 3.2 MP camera is good but it is surprising to see that Samsung has not bundled a flash or autofocus with it.

The model scores well in the features department. There is support for HSDPA, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Besides, the voice clarity is superb and the battery also lasts for long. Overall, if you want a capable Smartphone at a decent price and put up with a few minor quirks you cannot go wrong with the Genio Slide.
