It was most certainly a day when the blue waves ruled over the reds. Gathered at the Stamford Bridge venue to witness the match that was to take place between two of the premier clubs in the world of football- Chelsea and Manchester United, the crowd couldn’t have a asked for any better showdown. For it was that: a complete and entertaining clash between the titans.
The thrilling match drew to an end that declared the day to belong to the men in blue, when Chelsea managed to put the ball in the net and ended the match with a score of 1-0. Much to the chagrin of ManU manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. For Sir Ferguson, the outcome inflicted so much of pain and suffering that he could not restrain himself from launching on an attack against match referee, Martin Atkinson.
The accusations brought about by Sir Ferguson were of the stance that the referee had made some wrong judgments during the course of the match that cost his side good. The point in focus has been the free kick that was awarded to Chelsea [on the 77th minute of the match], which led to John Terry’s goal. The other part of Sir Ferguson’s charges seem to highlight the fact that Atkinson had failed to spot Didier Drogba in an offside position [almost infront of Edwin van der Sar].
However, it is not only the Manchester United manager who is voicing his displeasure at Atkinson’s referring. Quite a few of the players on the ManU side appear to be echoing his views and making it apparent that they felt certain events during the match weren’t justified.
