UK Flagged Ship Hijacked On The New Year

asian gloryLondon, Jan 2, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Hijacking ships to claim ransom has been a common practice of Somalian pirates for several ages. Earlier they had wrecked several ships and plundered the good carried on them. The authorities have adopted several methods to deal with the problems of pirate attack, which has checked the frequency of pirate attacks. Though they have been successful in controlling the problem, it does not appear that they have become successful in checking the problems completely. The latest reports of the Somalian pirate attack states that the sea pirates have hijacked a UK flagged ship from the coast of Bulgaria.

It is quite disappointing that the mariners, who were boarded on the ship, Asian Glory became the target of the Somalian pirates. As per the reports, it was a cargo ship and was carrying cars from Singapore. The ship was supposed to deliver the cars to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia but has been wrecked in the middle of its voyage. It has been stated that the ship was also carrying twenty-fiveĀ  crew on it and eight among them were Bulgarians. The reports about the ship hijack do not provide any information whether the pirates have killed any of the crew.

It has been reported that there were eight Bulgarians on the ship, which included the captain. The other people present on the ship were reportedly citizens of India, Ukraine and Romania. A spokesperson of the British Foreign Office said that they will maintain constant communication with the management company of the hijacked ship, Asian Glory and provide them the assistance they require for rescuing the crewalong with the ship.

The official sources stated that one of the sailors from the hijacked ship Asian Glory was able to contact the British management company and informed that the ship has been hijacked. At that time, he did not report of any injury of the crew and said that they were in good health. In the last few days, three ships have been hijacked by the Somali pirates. Before hijacking the Asian Glory, some pirates had hijacked another ship bearing the British flag. The reports indicate that St. James Park, a chemical tanker was attacked in the Gulf of Aden on Monday. Twenty-six crew members were on board, when the ship was seized. It has been reported that none of the members on board were British nationals. The reports stated that the crew of that ship headed from different countries like Turkey, India, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Russia and Philippines.

The pirates are aiming ships from different countries. Recently they had also hijacked a chemical tanker bearing the flag of Singapore. It has been stated that the Somali Pirates were behind this hijack. They had attacked the ship in the Gulf of Aden and captivated it along with the crew. Multiple ships have been hijacked in the past few days and have raised the question of mariners’ security.
