Mar 25 (PRINTWORDS NEWS)-
The days of bulky and clumsy gadgets are over. People love using compact products that serve their needs all right rather than feature monsters that are bulky and nor portable. Or how else can you explain the popularity of the netbooks and portable media players that have flooded the market these days? The latest craze among photography and video buffs is HD. A number of HD ready camcorders have appeared in the market and some of them like the Kodak Zi8 are already quite popular. Sony Ericsson has decided to join this bandwagon and the new Vivaz is a Touchscreen phone that is capable of HD video recording.
The Touchscreen while responsive is rather small compared to the android based phones and this may disappoint some of the users. The Vivaz boasts of a powerful 8.1 MP camera and it is located at the center of the phone’s back part. Interestingly, you get two buttons, one for still pictures and the other for camcorder. The video quality is on the better side and its video capture is far better than other camera phones. Even the still photos taken by the camera look good, with a lot of detail getting preserved. The single LED flash is not too useful for taking indoor shots though.
The memory card is not hot swappable, meaning you have to remove the battery to access the microSD slot. The Touchscreen of the Vivaz is pretty responsive and you will love web browsing owing to its generous 360×640-pixel resolution. The interface is not very fast. Compared to the new Motorola and HTC android OS based phones it comes a cropper in terms of speed and responsiveness. It is disappointing to see that Sony Ericsson has not used capacitive Touchscreen in this model, which belongs to the high end segment.
However, it would be wrong to deny the Vivaz its plus points. It offers ultra fast download thanks to its inbuilt support for HSDPA and WiFi. The videos look great on its screen and you also get a YouTube player built in. The call quality of the phone is top notch and you would be able to hear what the other person is saying even in crowded areas. Overall, the phone just stops short of becoming a stellar smart phone owing to its slower interface and few minor quirks.
