New York, June 1, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Andrew Koppel, the 40-year-old son of the former news anchor of ABC Ted Koppel was found dead in a Manhattan apartment on Tuesday. The cause of the death of Andrew is still not known and investigation is being carried out to find the exact cause of death. Detective John Sweeney went on to say to media sources that Andrew Koppel was pronounced dead at around 1:30 a.m. on Monday at the apartment in the neighborhood of Washington Heights. Though the investigating officers did not reveal any further details about the death of the son of Ted, a law enforcement official has mentioned reportedly to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Andrew was drinking heavily with a man whom he had befriended at a bar.
Reports claim that Andrew was in a pub hopping escapade and started drinking at Smith’s Bar and Restaurant in Manhattan. He then went on to visit many other places along with the man. Russell Wimberly the man who accompanied Andrew said to the New York Post that he was with Koppel drinking all night and added that Koppel had whiskey and that they ate nothing. Russell Wimberly maintained that Andrew befriended him and bought him the drinks.
The anonymous official has mentioned to The Associated Press that after their drinking escapade the two partners ended up at Wimberly’s friend’s place. Belinda Caban and Wimberly had asked Andrew to sleep at their apartment for the night but later found that Andrew was feeling sick. They eventually found that Andrew was not breathing and went to make emergency call at 911.
As per the latest reports, an autopsy was carried out on Monday whose reports are still pending. Ellen Borakove the spokeswoman for the city medical examiner has mentioned that further tests are needed to determine the manner and cause of death which might take a few weeks.
