parkin22 Thousands Of Britons Donate Brain For Parkinson’s Disease ResearchLondon, December 26, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Fight against Parkinson’s disease has received a huge impetus after thousands of people across United Kingdom have pledged to donate their brains to enable thorough study of the neurological disease. An additional 2,300 people have acknowledged the appeal made by Parkinson’s Disease Society (PDS), by donating their brains to facilitate the medical research of the degenerative disorder. The appeal was made by the organization in the month of April, asking people to donate their cranial organs, which would be used to study details pertaining to the neuro-degenerative ailment. As of now, the total number of people who have signed up to donate their brains after their death, has escalated to 4,032. Interestingly, the number of woman to have shown interest in the campaign is twice than the number of men.

Dr Kieran Breen, director of research and development at the institute said, “We are passionate about finding a cure and better treatments for people with Parkinson’s. We are delighted with the response to our appeal. Scientific research on brains from people both with and without Parkinson’s is essential to help us move closer to our goal.”

A comparison between normal brains and those from people suffering from the disorder, is expected to divulge revealing insights about the cause of the incurable disease. Presently, scientists in the organization are intricately studying around 450 brains, that have been assembled following the appeal. Moreover, it has been revealed that the study of the brain cells along with the medical history of the patients can go a long way in comprehending the gradual progression of the disease, which in turn is expected to result in better treatment of the condition.

Meanwhile, the campaign undertaken by PDS received a major boost with the participation of celebrities such as Jane Asher and Jeremy Paxman, who made people aware of the significant role that they can play in devising a treatment for the degenerative condition. Moreover, young people are being asked to come forward and join the fight against Parkinson’s disease as they are equally susceptible to the disease.

With complete cure for Parkinson’s disease still remaining elusive and around 120,000 people fighting the ailment in United Kingdom alone, researchers are keeping no stones unturned to come up with an effective treatment as well as a possible cure for the neurological condition.
