July 10, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) People all over the world are eagerly waiting for the release of “Titanic” yet again. James Cameron has just announced that he will be re-releasing his 1997 blockbuster in 3D. After the statement was issued by Fox Studios, people all over the world are not only waiting in anticipation for Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di’Caprio to make an on screen comeback, but are also talking about the survivors of one of the most talked-about accidents in history.
While most associate Titanic with the passionate romance of Jack and Rose, little do we talk about the experiences of the people who were on board the Titanic on the 14th of April in 1912. Rose DeWitt Bukator, who lives on to this day recalls her four day journey on the legendary ship which like the movie was marked by a romance with an artist by the name of Jack Dawson.
Others among the 2228 passengers were a woman named Molly Brown who gained cult status when she became the only woman to reach the shores in safety riding her lifeboat. Then there was the Strauss family, a husband and wife, who met with their deaths on the sinking ship, Mrs. Strauss deciding to stay back on the sinking ship when she learnt that her husband would not be allowed to use the lifeboats available on the Titanic.
With the Titanic all set to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2012, one cannot forget the debates surrounding its sinking in April 1912. While most historians put the blame on the Captain of the ship, some were sympathetic enough to say that it was a lack of lifeboats on the sinking ship which led to the large number of deaths.
