Even though he was under immense pain, owing to a groin injury that he had incurred recently, Fernando Torres did manage to put across a splendid performance for the game against Olympique Lyon. The match was drawn to a 1-1 score in the end, which is certainly going to prove quite difficult for the Liverpool team to face in the series.
According to Rafael Benitez, the manager of the Liverpool team, Torres was under immense pain all through the duration of the match against Olympique Lyon, that was held on Wednesday. It was much evident to the onlookers also. For, even though he did attempt at coming back in to the match all through the evening, his efforts couldn’t match up his usual standards and he was found toiling.
On the website of FIFA.com, Benitez was quoted saying,”Torres was playing with pain, and that is not easy. He was inconsistent, he had to keep stopping and starting again because of the problem.”
However, it cannot be denied that despite his grievous health state, Torres did manage to put across a lot of effort to usher some sort of success on behalf of his team [the fate of which lies in the outcome of the match between Lyon and Fiorentina]. He was seen covering almost every inch of the field [though not with his usual grace] for the 87 minutes of the match that he stayed on the field. With just 3 minutes remaining, Torres made his exit and so did the dreams of the hundreds, who had gathered to see their favorite team of Liverpool win.
