quake1 USGS Reports on The Recent Earthquake Feb 11(PRINTWORDS NEWS) A mild Earth quake of an intensity of 4.6 magnitude hit Northern Illinois this Wednesday morning. According to the US Geological Surveys department, the earthquake was of a minor kind and has caused no major casualties as such.

The earth quake was centered on Virgil,which is situated 50 miles northwest of Chicago. It occurred along an unknown fault line according to the geologists of USGS. It was centered shallowly at only 3 miles under the earth surface. Paul Stoddard who works as an associate Professor in Geology and Environmental Geosciences at Northern Illinois University proclaimed that this Wednesday’s earthquake was not an unusual one. Such earthquakes whose fault lines are not known have been reported from around the world many a times before.

Another person who is an earth science instructor at Aurora University said that this is the fifth earthquake that has shook the surrounding area of Illinois in the recent past and this he thinks is one such again. There are many hidden unknown fault lines in an around the land of Illinois and this earthquake occurred in one such unknown fault lines which is now known.

There has been no cases of casualties reported and as such people have only felt a mild earth shake around 3 am in the morning. The Kane County Sheriff’s office since then is flooded with numerous calls from people who want to know if this will lead to any other further earthquakes or what has happen was an earth quake of a major kind. However the seismic activity in the northwestern side of US has increased in recent times as the findings of the USGS shows.
