London, Nov.28, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Robin van Persie, the striker for the Arsenal team will not be seen in any of the winter matches as he would have to undergo surgery for an ankle ligament injury. He had received this injury a couple of weeks earlier while playing for the Netherlands team and medical reports indicate that he needs a surgery to correct the problem. The injury of the Arsenal striker disappointed the fans and they hoped that he would recover within a short period. Initial reports stated that the player will not be available for only a couple of weeks but later sources stated that the latest medical examinations showed that the injury was more than what has been anticipated and so the player would not be able to play for at least five months.
The club authorities in one of the recent club statements have said that Van Persie will go to Amsterdam where he will undergo a surgery that would ‘reconstruct the ligaments’ that got affected while playing. Not only did the fans get upset after learning this but the player himself was depressed too. He had got his leg plastered to correct the injury as he did not have any idea about the graveness of the situation. In his statement, he said that if he had been informed about this surgery earlier then he would have done it by now. Though the player is upset about the improper treatment, he does not have any problem in visiting Serbia. Mariana Kovacevic, who is a reputed ankle specialist will treat his problem. She has earlier treated some injured players and cured their problems and so it is expected that her treatment of Van Persie will also show a positive result.
In an interview, Robin Van Persie said that he earlier anticipated to get back in the field in four to five weeks and the latest medical reports have really upset him. His disappointment could be traced clearly in the statement, “But the ligaments in my ankle were completely ruptured. That’s why the treatment in Serbia, we know now, never had the chance to be successful from the start.”
Injury has affected the career of Van Persie earlier in 2006 and 2007. Several injuries have made him miss matches during that period but he successfully recovered from those injuries and exhibited good form. Persie, though he was playing good, will have to remain out of the field for a prolonged period of time for treating his ligament injury. His absence would not only be felt by the Arsenal team but also would affect the Netherlands team as the teams will start practicing for the Football World Cup in South Africa. World Cup matches are scheduled to start from June 11, 2010 and Robin Van Persie’s injury has jeopardized his chances of playing in the World Cup.
