London, Nov 29 (PRINTWORDS NEWS) -440x330 vpc100 angle Viewsonic VPC 100: UnderPowered All In One For Media BuffsThe Apple iMacs have inspired many computer manufacturers to come up with their incarnations though these attempts have met with limited and moderate success. However, for those users who do not have deep pockets and still want to own a compact All in One form factor PC, the ViewSonic VPC100 is a worthy choice. It can be purchased at approximately £385 in the UK. Those who are short on desktop space and want a PC that consumes very less power can consider buying it.

In terms of looks the VPC 100 can be ranked average and do not expect the classic charm of an iMac or the stylish sophistication of a Sony VAIO from it. Even the otherwise mundane Dell Studio One looks luscious compared to the VPC100. It does not feature the Touchscreen display used in Asus Eee top. The supplied keyboard has a number of media playback keys and you can launch your favorite applications using the key shortcuts. In terms of connectivity it only offers the standard options. There are a total of 4 USB ports in this PC and a media card reader. Since it does not come with any video output port like HDMI or DVI you can forget about connecting it to an external display. There is no eSATA port either. The black glossy finish looks decent but there are plenty of models that look better.

The VPC 100 is powered by an Intel Atom CPU and there is just 1GB of RAM. This takes a toll on its performance. While this configuration is right for using office applications and web browsing, gaming is not the forte of this PC. It also struggles when running resource hungry applications like Adobe Photoshop or Nero. The Intel GMA integrated GPU offers average performance in multimedia and media encoding.

Even in storage, it offers a now ubiquitous 160 GB hard disk. There is a webcam for video chatting. The display however is 18.5 inch with a resolution of 1,366×768, a tad bigger than the competing models. Thankfully the viewing angle is good for movie watching and general work. It can playback HD media but streaming HD video from the web may result in frame rate drops and stuttering. However, playing standard definition videos would not be problematic.

Most of the Nettops offer some form of wireless features and the VPC100 does not lag behind in this aspect. It’s Gigabit Ethernet and WiFi wins it a few brownie points. Since the CPU and RAM used in this model is not adequate, ViewSonic has wisely bundled Windows XP Home Edition with it. As one can expect from its specs the nettop offers similar performance to a netbook. The only difference is that it has a bigger and wider screen. It could be ideal for the buyers with a shoestring budget or for those who want a cheap secondary PC to supplement the existing one. Some of the latest netbooks offer much better and aster performance and also outperform it in the features department.
