San Angelo, Texas, Aug 10, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) On Tuesday Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison along with 20 years for assaulting two girls sexually and claiming that they were his spiritual wives. Texas Attorney Generalâs officeâs spokesperson, Jerry Strickland told a reputed media outlet that Warren Jeffs will have to spend at least 45 years before he becomes eligible for release. The grand jury sentenced the polygamist leader life time in prison for aggravated assault of a 12 year old girl and at the same time, 20 years in prison.
Jerry Strickland also added that Jeffs will have to serve minimum of 35 years of life sentence for the crime he has committed and at the same time, he will have to serve half of the other sentence as well.poly 300×152 Warren Jeffs Gets Life In PrisonÂ
Brent Jeffs, who is nephew of Warren Jeffs and testified in this case saying that his uncle raped him when he was only 5 year old. He seemed happy when he told a reputed media outlet that at last âjustice has been servedâ. He also added that finally he is happy to be in the court and involved in witnessing the justice.
In the court, prosecutor Eric Nichols said that Warren Jeffs hold the position as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsâ head to satisfy his own personal desires and appetites.
The law enforcement officials recovered documents that showed that Warren Jeffs had 78 illegal wives and out of which 24 of them were underage. The jury even heard the audio tapes, which were recovered. In those tapes it was clearly heard that Jeffs was forcing the two underage girls to be intimate with him.
After the verdict was read, Eric Nichols said, âThis is not the prosecution to persecute a people, this is a prosecution to protect a peopleâ. Principle Voices, a polygamist advocacy groupâs spokesperson, Anne Wilde also supported the verdict.
In her interview, she said, âI feel like justice has been done. I donât feel like he should be out in society. Even among his own group. I think he has a tendency to be a paedophile. And with that weakness, who is to say he wonât repeat these crimesâ.
