(PRINTWORDS NEWS)- After Japan quake and tsunami millions of people in the country are scampering for food and they are still without electricity. In some places, drinking water has become a scarcity.

Many people have to survive on rice balls and instant noodles as there is no other option. The Japan government has stepped up the rescue operations and rescue teams have also arrived from a number of countries. The fear of a meltdown at a nuclear reactor is also looming large.

The official death figure stands at 1000 but given the magnitude of the tsunami and the killer quake it might go up substantially. The scientists have agreed that this is the most severe quake to have struck Japan since records were kept.

It is being assumed that the number of casualties in Miyagi prefecture can cross 10000. Miyagi is among the areas that have been hit the hardest by the quake. The survivors are now worried about the fear of radiation though the authorities are trying their best to prevent meltdown at the quake hit nuclear power plants.

Reports have suggested that one of the plants has been hit by an explosion. The northeast coast is the worst affected area in the country and the survivors are suffering because of lack of transportation affecting food supply.

It is also being assumed that after relief operation the country may be hit by epidemic owing to the scale of devastation and lack of medicine supply to the affected places.
