(PRINTWORDS NEWS) On November 16, 2010, Salvatore Giunta was awarded with the Medal of Honor, which is regarded as the highest military honor in the nation, meant for those, who have made special contribution to the American Army.
Yesterday, the 25 year old Salvatore Giunta appeared as one of the honorable guests, in the Super Bowl, that took place in the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. He was paid an ode by the Super Bowl organizers for his valiance during the Afghan War in October 2007.
Salvatore Giunta, was introduced as the only and the first living recipient of this award, since the Vietnam war. Reportedly, since September 2001, six American army men were honored with the Medal of Honor, but all of them were posthumous. Salvatore Giunta made an exception.
He is still remembered for his undaunted spirit, with which he rescued his squad members in Afghanistan, who were ambushed by a group of extremist insurgents. He was determined to save their lives and therefore, with the help of the rest of his squad members, he took the risk.
Al one point of time, he even had to face the wrath of fierce firing from two enemies, that led to severe injuries in his body.However, he started firing back at those insurgent, killing one, and injuring the other. He was finally successful in accomplishing his mission, resorting to his spirit and bravery.
As he was introduced to more than 100,000 football lovers in the Cowboys Stadium, he got a warm and loud welcome, as each one of them were honored to see a national hero right in front of them, who received the award from none other than President Barack Obama himself.
