Michele Bachmann, Republic Presidential Candidate from Minnesota, was in for a bad mix-up at campaign stop in South Caroline on Tuesday. She played the Elvis Presley track “Promised Land” at a local restaurant and went on to wish the king of rock ‘n’ roll a happy birthday on his death anniversary!
Michele Bachmann’s gaffe, “Before we get started, let’s all say happy birthday to Elvis Presley today!”
August 16 is the date when Elvis died, in 1977. Bachmann ignored the fact and the correction and went on to her speech. Later she signed autographs and even took a break as she danced briefly with one of the fans.
The Congresswoman corrected herself later when speaking to the press, saying it was indeed the day when he passed away. Elvis Presley was born on Jan 8, 1935.
This is not Bachmann’s first mix-up over a cultural reference. In June she began her presidential campaign in Waterloo, Iowa, saying she had the same spirit as American actor John Wayne who is from Waterloo.
She overlooked the fact that the actor was actually from a town 150 miles away and the Wayne from Waterloo was really serial killer John Wayne Gacy who lived there for a time.
