(PRINTWORDS NEWS) The President of United States, Barack Obama addressed the nation in his 15 minutes speech, where he showed his concern about the recent U.S. debt and blamed the Republicans of House of Representatives for such a crisis situation.
In his speech, the President said that the Americans should call Congress members to support a deal, which “asks everyone to give a little without requiring anyone to sacrifice too much”. He called this phase as a “deep economic crisis” on the nation.
The President said that the present scenario is like a “dangerous game” that the nation has never played before and it cannot afford to play it now as well.
He expressed his concern over this issue and explained that the livelihoods and jobs of many people are at stake now and hence, “We can’t allow the American people to become collateral damage to Washington’s political warfare”.
President Barack Obama added that the Republicans have declared that they will help to prevent this economic debt, if only the rest of the nation “agree to their deep, spending cuts-only approach”.
However, the President showed his concern when he said that if the nation agrees to the terms and conditions of the Republicans, then the nation will not be left with ample money to pay any bill, which includes “monthly Social Security checks, veterans’ benefits, and the government contracts we’ve signed with thousands of businesses”.
The President continued his speech by asking the Republicans to accept increase in the revenues. At the same time, he said that the wealthy corporate should abandon some of their special deductions and tax breaks to help nation in this crisis situation.
He urged the nation to speak up for them as they may have voted for a “divided” government but not a “dysfunctional” government. On the other hand, John Boehner, the leader of Republicans in the house, strongly criticized President’s speech and said that President Barack Obama only wants a “blank cheque” for spending as much he wants to. However, John Boehner also added that the President is never going to get that blank cheque.
