(PRINTWORDS NEWS) Steve Landesberg once said, “Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.” But he is no more to do any insane activity. Reportedly this sit-com legend has died of cancer yesterday morning in Los Angeles.
He was 65 years old. His agent Jeffrey Leavitt of Leavitt Talent Group said in a statement, “It is with great sadness to report the loss of my friend and client Steve Landesberg.”
Steve Landesberg was an American actor, writer, voice over actor and comedian. He was widely known for his role as a cerebral detective on the well known ABC TV sitcom “Barney Miller.” He played a dual role on the show.
The show ran from 1975-82 and he was nominated for the Emmy Award as the best supporting actor for each of the show’s last three years on the air run.
Steve Landesberg was born on 23rd November 1943 in New York. He was appeared recently on “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Wild Hogs”. He played several parts in “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law”. Landesberg frequently appeared on several shows including “Seinfeld,” “Law and Order,” “Cosby” “Ghost Whisperer” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” He even hosted NBCs special “The Steve Landesberg Show.” in 1983.
He was a man of talents. Landesberg appeared in commercials too. He won a Bronze Lion for a commercial at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He appeared on stage in several dramas, like “Hold Me” in Birmingham. He did voice over in a cartoon, “American Dad”.
Landesberg was a gentleman, he knew how to hold his audiences. Since 1971, he has been entertaining his crowds. His wife Nancy and their daughter were with him till his death. “Steve was a true ‘Gentleman,’” Leavitt expressed as one of his lifelong friends.
